In March 1999, Good Housekeeping Magazine published an experiment using a negative-ion generator to remove cigarette smoke, and the result showed that most of the smoke was eliminated by negative ions. The U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that negative ions can reduce indoor dust by 52% and bacteria by 95%. Additionally, the U.S. National Institutes of Health also studied negative ions and concluded that they can reduce airborne pollutants by up to 97% within a distance of 1.5 meters.
